Mad Hopper

Mad Hopper brewery started operating in 2021 in Töölö, Helsinki. The company’s goal was to create products that would meet the needs of even the most demanding beer lovers, following international trends and acting as an innovative pioneer in the industry. The aim was to make the beers widely available in restaurants and retail stores, so Mad Hopper needed to become synonymous with surprising high-quality taste experiences.

Challenge

Mad Hopper was just starting up when Don & Branco came on board to design the company’s brand and visual identity in 2020. The brewery started its operations the following year, and as a new player, Mad Hopper had to be able to impress people as an innovative quality brand.

The brewing industry is highly competitive – in addition to the largest beverage companies, there are small breweries everywhere in Finland. Therefore, the brand and the product must truly stand out to grab the customers’ attention both in restaurants and retail stores.

Solution

The Mad Hopper brand was built around the “madness” contained in the name. The brand strategy and verbal identity were summed up in the slogan “Taste the madness”, which invites customers to enjoy surprising taste experiences.

The same vision is reflected in the bold and contemporary visual identity. The inspiring and creative brand wants to break boundaries, but not chaotically so that the core of the brand’s identity would be lost underneath the madness.

Don & Branco also designed and developed the Mad Hopper website. The tap handle view on the front page adds inventive functionality, allowing users to pull different beer taps to access further information about individual products through animated transitions.

Implementation

Since 2023, Don & Branco has also designed Mad Hopper cans for retail. The cans were given a colorful look to make them stand out among the competition on the crowded beer shelves, but at the same time the style remained stylish and minimalistic.

Mad Hopper has achieved a position where the company has a large, growing product selection that is appreciated by the customers. The beers are widely available in restaurants and grocery stores, for example K Group and S Group stores around Finland.
